Simone Biles Wins Historic Sixth Olympic Gold Medal
American gymnast Simone Biles has won her sixth Olympic gold medal, setting a new record for the most gold medals won by any American female gymnast in history.
Biles won the individual all-around gymnastics competition at the Paris Olympics on Friday, October 6, 2023, reclaiming her title after finishing second in the event at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The victory marks Biles' second gold medal at the Paris Games, after she also won the team event earlier this week.
Biles' six gold medals now surpass the previous record of five, held by Shannon Miller and Nastia Liukin.
In a post-match interview, Biles said, "I'm just so happy to be back on top of the podium. It's been a long road, but I'm finally here."
Biles' victory continues the dominance of American gymnasts in the all-around competition, as they have now won the last five titles.
